Enable core parking in Windows 7

Core parking is a new feature that dynamically selects a set of processors that should stay idle and not run any threads based on the current power policy and their recent utilization. The scheduler will attempt to honor this selection when it decides on which processors to run threads, allowing the parked cores to enter deep idle states where they consume very little power.

How to enable:
Go to
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00

Change Attributes to its subkeys ( 1-> 0 )

Open Power management panel. Go to Processor Management.

PROFIT!

It has three major sections. The introduction describes how Microsoft designed Windows 7, what editions of Windows 7 are available, and what is new. The last section, Windows 7 for IT Professionals, explains how Windows 7 can make people productive anywhere, manage risk though enhanced security and control, and reduce costs by streamlining PC management. It also has an overview of the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack that details how the set of applications can help companies get to a more managed and optimized desktop.

Users looking to fix issues associated with Windows 7 are now invited to visit the Windows 7 Solution Center, which is split into the following categories: installation, upgrading, activation, performance, safety and security, Internet Explorer, entertainment, productivity, ask the community, self-support, assisted support, and customer service.

DirectAccess: Infrastructure Planning and Design Guide

This IPD guide provides actionable guidance for designing a DirectAccess infrastructure. The guide’s easy-to-follow, four-step process gives a straightforward explanation of the infrastructure required for clients to be connected from the Internet to resources on the corporate network, whether or not the organization has begun deploying IPv6.

The guide covers four key steps in the design process for DirectAccess:

  • Aligning the project scope with the business requirements.
  • Determining whether IPv6, Teredo, 6to4, and IP-HTTPS connectivity will be supported for Internet-based clients.
  • Assessing the need for IPv6/IPv4 network address translation service and ISATAP for internal communication.
  • Determining the number and placement of servers, the certificate services requirements, and location of CRL distribution points.

Linus is Happy with Windows 7

There is a Linux Symposium in Japan and according to Chris a attendee:

“Microsoft tried to torpedo the success of the Japan Linux Symposium by launching their Windows 7 product that same day. They even had setup a big promotion booth across the street from the conference center.
During a break, we decided to make some fun of Microsoft and dragged Linus over there. When we arrived there, Linus was sold immediately on the product as you can see in the picture. At least that’s what the sales guy thought. He obviously had no idea who he was dealing with. But in the end Linus surprisingly did not buy a copy. Wise man!”

But he looks happy :)

Office 2010 public beta in November

Microsoft on Monday is announcing that it will release in November a public test version of Office 2010.

The software maker released a limited technology preview of the software in July and plans to release the final version next year. It also started testing of the browser-based “Office Web Apps” in September.

Microsoft, which is making the announcement at its SharePoint conference, is also detailing some of the features of the next version of its portal software, which will also enter beta next month.

The new version, SharePoint 2010, includes Office’s Ribbon user interface as well as enhanced support for video, audio and Silverlight. Programmers will also be able develop Sharepointl sites using the next version of the company’s Visual Studio, which is going into a second beta this week.

SharePoint is an important product for Microsoft as it is one of the company’s fastest growing large businesses. Last year it brought in more than $1.3 billion in revenue, up 20 percent from the prior year.

“SharePoint 2010 is the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date,” CEO Steve Ballmer said in a statement. “When paired with Microsoft Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business.”
